Fresno Falcons News Release

FRESNO, Calif. – The Taylor Cup Champion Fresno Falcons continue to build their roster in defense of their title by signing defenseman Kayle Short to a contract. With the addition of Short, the Falcons now have 15 players under contract for the 2002-03 season.

Short, a 29-year old native of Barrie, Ontario, is entering his seventh professional season, having spent the previous four seasons playing in the British Super League. As a teammate of current Falcon Jason Weaver, Short helped guide the Sheffield Steelers to the 2001 Grand Slam by winning all four British Super League titles. He spent last season with the Manchester Storm where he matched his career high for assists with 12. Short spent the 1996-97 season with the Canadian National team, scoring 13 points (7g-6a) in 59 games. In 240 career professional games, Short has scored 73 points (19g-54a) while amassing 335 penalty minutes.

"Having lost Jason McBain, we needed a general back there on defense and Kayle gives us that man," said Falcons head coach and general manager Blaine Moore. "He has played at the next level and comes to us very highly touted," said Moore.

The Falcons will open the 2002-03 home schedule on Oct. 18 in a Taylor Cup Finals re-match with the Idaho Steelheads. Single-game tickets go on sale on Sept. 23 and season ticket packages are still available for as little as $100. Call the Falcons offices at 485-PUCK (7825) for more information.
