Roanoke, VA â The Roanoke Express have announced plans for the First Annual Terence Tootoo Memorial Golf Tournament to be played at Hanging Rock Golf Club in Salem, VA at 8am on Friday, October 4, 2002. Tootoo, a 22 year old second year pro, was found dead two weeks ago in Brandon, Manitoba. The death was ruled a suicide by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The golf tournament which is open to the first 90 players will feature teams of three players teamed up with one Express player/coach/owner to round out the foursome. It will be a captain's choice format with prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive, longest putt, as well as for first, second and third place. Tournament entry fee is $75 and will include 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, beverages, and raffle prizes for all.
"The Express family has just endured a great loss", said Head Coach and General Manager Perry Florio. "Our objective is to turn this tragedy into a learning experience. We want to create awareness for suicide prevention to the residents of the Roanoke Valley".
