Fairbanks Grizzlies Sign Size and AFL Talent

Fairbanks, AK. 2.09.09. Ricky Bertz, General Manager and owner of the Fairbanks Grizzlies, announced the signing of (4) players who bring size and experience to the roster that will help protect the quarterback and pressure the opposing quarterbacks.

Chris Jahnke 6'5" 315 OL University of Indiana

Chris has 3 years of professional football experience. One year in the af2 with the Quad City Steamwheelrs, that year he was a First Team all-af2 performer. He played last year for the Orlando Predators of the AFL. Prior to that Chris was with the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL. He brings great size and experience to the offensive line and will be playing center.

"I would say the best Offensive lineman I have coached, although Ryan Pahua may disagree"

Eric Gaskins 6'2" 330 OL Wake Forrest

A starter at Wake Forrest for two years has good size and feet. Rated as potential NFL guard, Eric played in a versatile offense at Wake Forrest and has the ability to thrive in the IFL game.

"I really like his size and footwork and with his ability to also play guard and center give us the depth you need in this game."

DePhillip Harris 6'3" 285 DL Midwestern State

Harris played two years at San Bernardino JC then transferred to Midwestern State. Big physical defensive lineman that bench pressed 225lbs. 28 times at his last combine. Quick off the ball could be a projected Defensive End or Nose Guard.

"I want to have physical players up front on the D-line and Harris brings that."

Aaron Brown 6'2" 280 LB Texas A&M

A two time junior college All-American recorded 67 tackles and 14 sacks in one season at Compton JC. A top recruit for Coach Dennis Franchione at Texas A&M, in 2004. Played for Tri Cities in the af2. A natural linebacker , that has great size and speed.

"He can cover sideline to sideline and will hit you in the mouth".

Michael Hollett 6' 4" OL Valley City State

A 2004 North Pole High Graduate who also is returning to the Grizzlies this year after playing in one game for the Grizzlies last year, a 68-66 heart stopping thriller to finish the season against the Alaska Wild. Mike is currently student teaching at North Pole High School and looks forward to playing for the Grizzlies this year.

Coach Ponder on Hollett

"I watched most of the Grizzlies game from last year and Mike Hollett did a very good job in his one game, not allowing a sack against a good defensive player. I look forward to having Coach Flanagan work with him to help hone his skills"
