
Ruff Riders Acquire Players, Assign Defensive Coordinator

ABILENE, TX. : The Abilene Ruff Riders announced on Friday, March 6, from a press conference at Lytle Land & Cattle Company Restaurant that the organization has acquired OL Kyle Wren and RB Rashon Lewis for the 2009 season. In addition, the Ruff Riders announced that John Clark has been named the Defensive Coordinator.
Kyle Wren (OL) 6'4", 325 lbs. Lambuth University -
Kyle is from Dallas, TX and played his high school football at Dallas Kimball High. After an outstanding high school career, Wren went to play college football at Lambuth University. Kyle became a standout offensive lineman splitting time between offensive tackle and guard. His contributions at Lambuth University (NAIA) made him a well-respected lineman in the Mid-South Conference. Kyle will compete for a starting position on the Ruff Riders offensive line for this upcoming training camp.
"Kyle is a great athlete and he will be a productive player on the O-line for us this season. I think he will turn some heads once we start camp." stated Abilene Ruff Riders Head Coach, Gerald Dockery.
Rashon Lewis (RB/KR) 6'1", 195 lbs. McMurry University -
Lewis will enter training camp at both the running back and kickoff return specialist positions. Lewis had a great career while at McMurry University. As the starting quarterback in 2007, Lewis led the team with 1,843 yards passing and 14 touchdowns. Lewis averaged 184 yards passing a game. His 569 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns were good for second on the team in '07. Lewis also led the team in total offense with 2,412 total yards, averaging 241 yards a game. In addition, Lewis ranked fourth on the team in all-purpose yards during the '07 season. Lewis was also part of the two-time conference championship track & field program while at McMurry.
"Rashon is an explosive player on offense. He will certainly be an offensive threat in the backfield and on kick returns. He will play a key role for our club this upcoming season." stated Abilene Ruff Riders Head Coach, Gerald Dockery.
John Clark, Defensive Coordinator -
John Clark returns to the Ruff Riders but this time around as the Defensive Coordinator. Last year, Clark was with the Ruff Riders organization when the team was in Katy. The St. Louis, MO native has 15 years of coaching experience and now he looks to lead the Ruff Riders defense as they prepare for their '09 season in the IFL (Indoor Football League). Clark attended Southern University where he played college basketball, however, Clark was a standout football player all throughout high school.
"This is a great opportunity for me. I'm excited about growing with the city of Abilene and the community. I"m proud of being a part of the Abilene Ruff Riders and I can't wait to get to work." stated Abilene Ruff Riders Defensive Coordinator, John Clark.
