Edmonton Capitals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Former Edmonton Trapper home run hitter Ron Kittle joined the Caps as an honourary coach and signed autographs for fans during Friday afternoon's game. The Capitals provided a day that Kittle could be proud of as seven extra-base hits, including three home runs, led to a Caps victory over the visiting Calgary Vipers, 11-7. In a Division Championship Series preview, the teams again combined for a high-scoring, offense-packed game.

Caps first baseman Joey Gomes led the attack hitting two home runs on the afternoon. Gomes finished with three hits and had a pair of runs scored and batted in. Joe Jiannetti and Aaron Hornostaj added long balls. Hornostaj also tripled and scored twice in the victory.

On the mound, starter Chris Little (7-3, 5.06 ERA) was good enough to earn the victory. Todd Privett and Derrick DePriest were solid in relief, holding the Viper hitters to a single run during their innings. DePriest earned his third save by closing out the game with 2.1 innings of relief work. Calgary reliever Dallas Mahan (3-4, 4.17 ERA) took the loss after surrendering seven runs in two innings of work, including a Caps six-run fifth.

The terrific lineup of baseball continues on Saturday night with Canadian Tire Fan Appreciation Night.
