Tucson Toros News Release
St. George, UT - The Tucson Toros lost to the St. George Roadrunners 2-1 Thursday night, and will now head home to try to clinch a playoff spot on their home field. The two teams match each other with 1 run apiece for the first 8 innings, but two singles and an error in the bottom of the 9th inning brought home the decisive second run for the Roadrunners as the walked off with a win.
The game was dominated by pitching from both sides, with just 11 combined hits and 17 combined baserunners for both team. Tucson Starter Lorenzo Barcelo went 8 stellar innings, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits and a walk, while striking out 5 batters. Barcelo was left with a no decision however, as Reliever Cibney Bello took the defeat in the 9th.
Designated Hitter continued his strong second have, driving in Tucson's lone run with the team's only extra-base hit of the night - a double that scored Third Baseman Skip Adams in the third inning. Junior Spivey, Luis Apodaca and Mayobanex Santana also had hits in the game.
Tucson will return home Friday to face the Roadrunners for a pivotal four game series that will determine the Toros playoff hopes. If the team wins two of the four games they will take the GBL Southern Division title and advance to the postseason. Tucson can also make the playoffs in some scenarios with fewer than two wins, but would need help from Victoria who is taking on Long Beach, a division rival. Friday's contest is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. and will feature postgame fireworks. The action can be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or streaming online at www.tucsontoros.com.
