Express Weekly: Chicago Wraps up Homestand on Friday

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, saw the first shutout in club history recorded by Paul Dainton in a 2-0 victory over Toledo on Saturday night. The Express went 1-1-0-0 on the week, and are currently 3-2-0-0 (6pts) on the season.

The Wings scored 6:44 seconds into the game, and never looked back as they collected a 3-1 win over the Express. Kalamazoo added a goal from F Eric Kattelus in the second and D Joe Sova in the third, stretching the lead to 3-0. C Aaron Marvin gave Chicago some life when he put the Express on the board with 6:12 left in the contest. It was the second goal in as many games for Marvin. It would not be enough, as Wings G Riley Gill stopped 30 of 31 shots for the win.

RW Chaz Johnson opened the scoring when he notched his first goal of the year shorthanded at 17:23 of the first period. F Pierre-Luc Faubert doubled the Chicago lead after deflecting a D Josh Burrows shot past Toledo G Thomas McCollum. G Paul Dainton stole the show in the third period, stopping 15 Toledo shots en route to a 27 save shutout win, the first shutout in Chicago Express history.

Team Notes:

G Paul Dainton earned a shutout in his first start as a member of the Express. His 27 saves marked both his first professional shutout as well as the first shutout in Express history.RW Chaz Johnson scored his first goal of the season on Saturday. The goal stood as the game-winner, and was scored shorthanded 17:23 into the first period.D Josh Burrows and F Tim Spencer both picked up their first points of the season over the weekend. Burrows assisted on F Pierre-Luc Faubert's goal on Saturday, while Spencer assisted on C Aaron Marvin's third period tally on Friday.Chicago's power play, after starting the season 4-for-9, has gone 1-for-16 in their last three games.The penalty kill continues to shine, as opposing teams have scored just three times in 29 chances.
