
Express Split East Coast Trip, Earn Win over Hurricanes, 111-93

(HALIFAX, NS)- The Windsor Express (20-18) completed their East Coast trip against the number one team in the league, the Halifax Hurricanes (28-10) on Sunday afternoon. Windsor outscored Halifax in all four quarters, and sealed the win, 111-93.
The Hurricanes were off to a quick start after a jumper from Billy White. Chris Commons responds with a jumper of his own, and the score is tied 2-2. Shane Gibson's three pointer gave the Hurricanes their only lead of the game, 5-2. From there, it was all Express. Back-to-back three pointers from Billy Rush and Chris Commons gave the Express a 26-17 with three minutes left in the first. Billy Rush hit a three pointer at the buzzer to give the Express a 32-25 advantage.
A minute into the second quarter, Justin Johnson brings the score within two after hitting a three pointer. Two minutes into the quarter, Brandon Robinson puts up five points in a minute to extend Windsor's lead, 39-32. Windsor went into halftime with a 57-46 lead.
Chris Commons started the second half of the game with a three pointer to extend the Express lead to 16, 60-46. Maurice Bolden gives the Express their biggest lead of the game, 71-52 with over 7 minutes to go in the third.The Express finish the third quarter with a 83-64 lead.
Halifax put up the first three points in the final quarter, and it took two minutes for Windsor to score. Midway through the quarter, Justin Johnson makes it a seven point game, 87-80. Windsor went on an 8-2 run in the last two minutes of the game to extend their lead to 107-89. Brandon Bowdry closes the game with a jumper, and Windsor would go on to win, 111-93.
Brandon Robinson and Chris Commons led the Express in scoring, each adding 26 points in the victory.
Tony Bennett added 11 assists, a game high.
Justin Johnson led the Hurricanes in scoring with 25 points. Shane Gibson had 16 points of his own.
The Windsor Express will be back at The WFCU Centre this Friday, April 29th to host the Niagara River Lions for a 7:30pm game start.
