Saint John Riptide News Release

(SAINT JOHN, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats sealed the deal with a furious fourth quarter rally that saw them take down the Island Storm, 116-108, at Harbour Station.

The Storm took a 29-24 lead into the second quarter on a three point play by Terry Thomas.

Saint John pushed back in the second building a 52-44 lead with 3:50 before intermission. Brent Jennings made consecutive three pointers and the lead was down to 52-49 in a span of 60 seconds. Thomas then made a basket and it was 52-51. Al Stewart followed that with a three pointer, and the Storm regained the lead at 54-52 with 1 min left. Doug Herring Jr and Gabe Freeman both scored and the Mill Rats took a 56-54 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter it was all Island Storm as they held the Mill Rats to 23 points, while scoring 33 of their own. The visitors led 87-79 heading into the 4th.

Gabe Freeman changed the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter, at one point playing point guard on the offensive end and guarding the Storm's 6'11 280 lb centre Chad Posthumous on the other end. The Mill Rats fed off his energy to go on a massive 19-3 run to grab a 98-90 lead with 6:57 remaining in the game.

Anthony Anderson backed up on 6'10 Brian Addision, who guarded him on a switch, and drained a three pointer about 6 feet behind the line to give Saint John a 101-91 lead.

Jennings again hit back to back treys and cut the deficit to 101-97 with 4:40 left. But Anderson found Freeman under the basket, and then Freeman took a rebound coast to coast for the lay in and a 105-97 advantage. Anderson hit two free throws and another triple to seal the deal going away.

Anthony Anderson led the Mill Rats with 29 points, Freeman was right behind with 27, Herring Jr 16 & 9 assists, Johnny Mayhane 11, Olu Famutimi 10, and Anthony Stover 10. Stover added 9 rebounds and 4 blocks on the afternoon. Jennings led the Storm with 31 points.

Saint John improves to 24-14 while the Island drops to 13-25.

The Mill Rats are back at home to close out the regular season next Friday and Saturday against the Moncton Miracles and the #1 Halifax Hurricanes. Both games are at 7 PM.

Single game and flex tickets are on sale at the Harbour Station Box Office or by calling 506-657-1234 or by visiting www.harbourstation.ca.
