Round Rock Express News Release

Tuesday's 7-1 loss to San Antonio captured the spirit of the 2003 Round Rock Express season. Eight innings of solid baseball marred by a one inning collapse. Five second inning runs – on only two hits – sent Round Rock to the loss in front of 8,705 at The Dell Diamond. The inning started with a strikeout, but three walks, a three-run double, a single and a bases loaded hit batter plated all the runs the Missions would need. Other than that, San Antonio was held in check.

It was an unusual outing for starter and loser Greg Miller (2-1). The lefthander had only ten walks in 30.1 innings, but walked five in five innings of work. Overall, Miller allowed six runs – five earned - on three hits with five walks.

Starter Rett Johnson (4-1) was sterling for San Antonio. Johnson was rarely in trouble, going 8 1/3 innings and did not allow a run until the ninth, allowing only eight hits while striking out 12.

On the positive side for the Express, Chris Burke continued his remarkable season with a fourth inning single to extend his hitting streak to ten games. Burke has a hit in 32 of the 36 games he's played.

Tommy Whiteman had two hits and the sole RBI for Round Rock.

The two teams will meet tomorrow at 12:05 p.m. in a "Business Fan's" special.
