Zephyrs Sweep Doubleheader from Royals

John Buck had three hits and four RBI to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs over the Omaha Royals, 12-3, to sweep a doubleheader on Monday Night in Omaha. In the first game, Raul Chavez had two hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Zephyrs clipped the Royals, 5-4.

Buck singled and scored in the top of the third inning, laced an RBI single and scored in the fourth and launched a three-run homer, his first of the year, to highlight a six-run outburst in the sixth. Henri Stanley clubbed a solo homer and hit a two-run double and Jason Alfaro added a solo shot for New Orleans, which tied the Nashville Sounds for first place in the Pacific Coast League East with the victory. Miguel Saladin (2-2), who has not allowed an earned run in his last 11 innings pitched, threw two scoreless frames, fanning two and walking one to get the win. Morgan Burkhart hit a two-run homer for Omaha. Scott Mullen (2-2) was hit for six runs -- five earned -- and nine hits in four innings to suffer the loss.

In game one, Chavez singled in a run in the top of the second inning and doubled in another in the sixth to give New Orleans a 4-2 lead. Eric Bruntlett and Colin Porter each chipped in with two hits and an RBI for the Zephyrs. Jonathan Johnson (3-3), who has struck out 15 and walked none over his last three starts, allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings to get the win. Kirk Bullinger pitched one scoreless inning to grab his fourth save, getting Julius Matos to ground into a double play to end a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. Brandon Berger launched a two-run homer in the first inning for the Royals. Shawn Sedlacek (0-6) gave up five runs and eight hits, fanning two and walking three, in 5 1/3 innings to lose his fifth consecutive start.
