Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Las Vegas jumped out to an early 5-1 lead Monday night and held on for a 6-4 win over the Sidewinders at Cashman Field. Tucson committed three errors leading to a pair of unearned runs and fell short in a comeback attempt against the league's best team.

The 51's scored three runs off Tucson starter Edgar Gonzalez in the first inning. Bubba Crosby started the scoring with a two-run double. Koy Hill added an RBI single.

Crosby, the league's leading hitter at .431, started the third inning by homering off Gonzalez to push the Vegas lead to 5-1.

Tucson plated three unearned runs in the top off the seventh. Matt Kata was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the first run. Mike Bell later added a two-run single to close Tucson within a run at 5-4.

The Sidewinders also had runners at first and third in the eighth inning before Robby Hammock flied out to end the inning.

The 51's pushed across an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth off Ron Villone for the final 6-4 margin.

Tucson dropped to 16-20, ten games back of first place Las Vegas. John Patterson (4-1 2.73) will start the final game of the series Tuesday night in a 7:10 start from Cashman Field. Lindsay Gulin (4-1 3.02) will draw the start for the 51's.
