New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Daniel Barone turned in a solid start for the Zephyrs, and Cameron Maybin, John Lindsey and Andy Gonzalez each had RBI singles, but it was not enough as the Zephyrs fell to the Round Rock Express 4-3 Friday night at Zephyr Field.
Barone pitched six strong innings for the Zephyrs, allowing only two runs on four hits. He left the game with the Zephyrs leading 3-2 after the sixth inning, but the bullpen could not hang on to the lead.
Nate Field (1-2) came into the game for the ninth inning and promptly gave up a leadoff double to Tommy Manzella. Outfielder Brian Bogusevic then tripled down the right field line, driving home Manzella to tie the game.
Mark Saccomanno singled to left field, scoring Bogusevic, and second baseman Jason Smith hit a two-run homer off Field to give the Express a 6-3 lead. Smith was 1-for-4 on the night with two RBI and two runs scored.
Wesley Wright (1-0) got the victory for Round Rock after pitching two innings of scoreless relief for starter Josh Muecke. Chad Paronto secured the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning for the Express, who improved their record to 22-27.
With the loss, the Zephyrs fall to 18-30 on the year. The two teams will meet again Saturday night at 6:00 with Rick Vandenhurk (RHP) of the Zephyrs facing Bud Norris (RHP) of the Express in the second game of the teams' four game series.
