
Express Earn Road Win over River Lions, 97-93

(ST. CATHERINES, ON)- The Windsor Express (10-10) bounced back from a tough loss the night before to the London Lightning to earn a win over the Niagara River Lions (5-14) with a final score of 97-93.
Maurice Bolden got the Express on the board early in the game with a hook shot. Leads were exchanged throughout the quarter, until both teams were tied at the midway point, 13-13. The River Lions took the lead after Mike Allison got the deuce. The Express could not keep up, and finished the first trailing by 8, 27-19.
Alex Johnson started off the second quarter with a bucket to bring the score within 6, 27-21. However, Niagara continued to dominate, and created their biggest lead of the game, 40-30 with over five minutes left. Alex Johnson hits a three pointer with 40 seconds left in the second quarter, and Niagara goes into halftime with a five point lead, 47-42.
The third quarter was dominated by Maurice Bolden, who opened the quarter with a jumper. Mo also gave the Express their first lead since the first quarter, 52-51 at the 8:20 mark after completing a three point play. Mo did get injured late in the quarter, and did not return for the rest of the game. The Express finished the third with a 74-68 advantage.
The last quarter saw Niagara climb back, especially after a deep three from Sammy Zeglinski early. However, Brandon Robinson responded with 5 points to extend Windsor's lead by 8, 81-73. Windsor was able to hold off Niagara for the remainder of the quarter. Brandon Robinson seals the win for Windsor after hitting a pair of free throws, making the final score 97-93.
Chris Commons led the Express in scoring with 22 points, followed by Brandon Robinson with 21 points.
Alex Johnson came off the bench and put up 17 points, along with 3 steals.
Tony Bennett added a double double, with 12 points and 11 assists.
Sammy Zeglinski led the River Lions in scoring with a game high 23 points. Mike Allison added 12 points of his own.
The Windsor Express finish their three game stretch at The WFCU Centre on Saturday, February 20th against the visiting London Lightning. Game time is scheduled for 7:30pm.
