
Express Drop Below .500 After River Lions Loss, 109-98

(ST. CATHERINES, ON)- The Windsor Express (6-7) headed back on the road looking for their second win in a row against the Niagara River Lions (4-9). A big fourth quarter from the River Lions put the Express below .500, with a final score of 109-98.
The game started off with Logan Stutz hitting both of his free throws to give the River Lions an early lead. The Express went on a 8-0 run near the mid point of the quarter, and lead 15-8. Clinton Springer-Williams hits a three pointer at the end of the quarter to give the River Lions a 24-21 advantage.
The second quarter saw leads switch back and forth between Windsor and Niagara. Midway through the quarter, both teams were tied at 35 apiece. Leads switched back and forth after that point, and Niagara went into halftime with a 50-47 lead.
The third quarter started off with an Express run, and a three pointer from Chris Commons to give the Express the lead, 54-49 with 10 minutes to go in the quarter. The River Lions were able to come back and hold an 11 point over the Express with just over 4 minutes to go. Paul Cooper is able to get a bucket as the quarter winds down to make it a tie game for both teams going into the final quarter.
Greg Carter starts the last quarter off with a three pointer to give Niagara an early lead, 78-75. A three pointer from Brandon Robinson would give Windsor their first lead of the fourth quarter, 79-78. Niagara took control of the remainder of the quarter, outscoring Windsor 34-23, and sealing a win, 109-98.
Chris Commons led the Express in scoring with 23 points. Tony Bennett put up 18 points.
Brandon Robinson had a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Clinton Springer-Williams had a game high 38 points. Adam Blazek added 18 points of his own.
The Express will be back at The WFCU Centre, on Friday, January 29th to host the Island Storm for a 7:30pm game start.
The Windsor Express will be back at Caesars Windsor on Wednesday, February 3rd for the third annual 'Clash at the Colosseum', and will take on 401 Rivals, the London Lightning. This is an all ages event.
