
Mill Rats Defeat Division Leading Hurricanes for 4th Time

(Halifax, NS): The Saint John Mill Rats defeated the division leading Halifax Hurricanes for the 4th time this season, this time by the score of 115-104 at the Scotiabank Centre.
The Mill Rats are the lone team in the NBL Canada to defeat the Halifax Hurricanes, who now hold a record of 9-4. Saint John improves to 8-4.
The first quarter was tight as Saint John led by just 23-22 after one. In the second quarter, the three point shooting of Johnny Mayhane and Corey Allmond helped build a 54-43 Mill Rats lead at the half.
In the third quarter the Mill Rats kept the pressure on and built a 73-53 advantage heading into the final stanza.
A spirited comeback by the Hurricanes in front of their home crowd, cut the deficit to as close as 100-96. But it was again Johnny Mayhane who answered the call with two three pointers in the final 3 minutes to maintain the lead.
Mayhane led the Mill Rats with 26 points (6-7 shooting from three), Gabe Freeman 22 points & 11 rebounds, Anthony Stover 19 points, Anthony Anderson 17, Corey Allmond 12, and Ricky Volcy 10. Cliff Clinkscales led Halifax with 18.
The team travels on Tuesday to Ontario to face the River Lions again and then the London Lightning. They then return to the Martimes and play on the road against the Miracles and Island Storm, before returning home on February 18th against the Orangeville A's.
