Reading, PA- March 2, 2012- High school quarterbacks from Berks and surrounding counties competed in the Berks Technical Institute (BTI) Quarterback Challenge hosted by Murdocc Saunders of BTI during the halftime of the Reading Express football game against the Green Bay Blizzard.

Cedar Crest's Nicholas Cascarino won the challenge scoring 350 points in the first round to pass him through to the final round where he scored 500 points.

"It's great to compete in the off season," Cascarino said, "I just looked at it as a unique opportunity to and something else to do, not playing against an opponent but still competing against other quarterbacks."

Cascarino was in second place behind Hamburg's Joe Cominsky going into the final round of the competition, but Cominsky only came up with 350 points in the end. Also making it to the final round was Anthony Pletz from ELCO.

During the quarterback challenge there were three targets set up, one on each of the 10, 15, and 20-yard lines. The target on the 10-yard line was worth 25 points, the target on the 15-yard line was worth 50 points, and the target on the 20- yard line was worth 100 points. The participants could throw as many footballs as they could within the 30 second time period.

Most of the participants went for the 50-point target, and that is how Cascarino scored all of his points, hitting the target 10 times that final round. However, Pletz and Cominsky were the only two competitors to hit the 100-point targets, once each during the preliminary round.

Cascarino and the other quarterbacks really fed off each other and the crowd for motivation.

"I love competition but at the end of the day we're still all friends. It just nice to get out and have some fun," said Cascarino.
