Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA - Beyond the end of football season, Spygate continues to linger on the front pages and in the minds of football fans in New England. The Brockton Rox are ready to put an end to it with Spygate Demolition Night. The team will invite fans to bring any and all video evidence they wish to destroy to the ballpark on Friday, June 13th for an explosive end to the controversy. All video evidence brought to the game that night will be destroyed in a post-game explosion.

In addition to the pyrotechnics, the Rox will attempt to prove the minimal effects of stealing signs and signals in competitive play. The team will aim video cameras at the catcher and the opposing dugout in an effort to capture the opposition's signs. Fans will have the chance to join in on the action and relay any signs they can steal to the Rox dugout.

"It's time to let our fans move forward and begin the process of leaving Spygate as a specter in the archives of history," said Rox GM Brian Voelkel. "We have an expert within our organization who is fully qualified to conduct such a display."

One of the team's principal advisors is baseball promotions guru Mike Veeck, whose 1979 Disco Demolition Night caused his Chicago White Sox to forfeit the second game of a double header. The Rox hope their blasting display is only slightly similar to that which occurred in Chicago in 1979.

Veeck will be on hand to detonate the explosives.

"We're not worried at all about a repeat of the riots from Disco Demolition Night," Voelkel maintained. "In 1979, Mike Veeck had to contend with 50,000 hippies; Campanelli Stadium only holds 4,750."

The Rox home opener is Saturday, May 24th at 6:05 p.m. against the Nashua Pride. Season tickets, Mini-Plans, Flex Packs, and group outings are currently available through the Rox Front Office at (508) 559-7000.
