SIOUX CITY, IA- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 7-4 to the Sioux City Explorers at Lewis and Clark Park on Saturday night.

The Explorers sent 11 men to the plate during a six-run bottom of the fifth inning that erased a 3-1 Wichita lead. With one out and nobody on base, Wally Backman Jr. reached on a bunt single up the third base line and moved to second on Derek Schermerhorn's groundball single through the left side. Kent Sakamoto pulled a single through the hole to score Backman and trim the lead to 3-2. Ray Serrano was next and chopped a single up the middle to score Schermerhorn with the tying run. After Brett Flowers walked to load the bases, Wingnuts' starter Chad Sherman was relieved by Jared Simon.

Simon induced a groundball to shortstop from Ryan Priddy. The ball deflected off of Josh Horn who was able to recover and get the force at second on Flowers while Sakamoto came in with the lead run. Tyler Goodro drove in two more runs, hitting a flyball double to center field. Center fielder Mike Conroy appeared unable to locate the ball which eventually landed beyond his reach. After Mike Murphy walked, Dustin Jones hit a bloop single into shallow right field to score Goodro with the Explorers seventh run.

With Workman now on third, Edwin Bellorin made it 3-1 Wichita with an RBI groundout to second base.

Schumacher eventually earned the win, working eight-plus innings. Schumacher allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits. Schumacher walked three and struck out eight.

The Wingnuts scratched out an unearned run in the top of the eighth on a throwing error by Priddy. Emiliano Fruto relieved Schumacher in the top of the ninth and retired three straight hitters to earn the save.
