Explorers Explode For Sixteen Runs Against Goldeyes

Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers explode for sixteen runs to get the 16-1 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Sioux City jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Derrick Robinson reached first on an error, advanced to third on a Michael Lang double, and scored on an RBI (4-3) groundout by Nate Samson. Lang went on to score the second run on a 4-3 groundout by LeVon Washington.

In the second, Explorers tacked on another run. Brendan Slattery led-off with a double, moved to third on a base-hit, and scored off a sacrifice-fly to right by Byron Johns.

Explorers added two more in the bottom of the third. Michael Lang scored a run from third base on a wild pitch, and Tim Colwell knocked in a run with an RBI double.

Winnipeg recorded their first run in the fourth. Goldeyes centerfielder Reggie Abercrombie smashed a solo-homer to cut the lead down to 5-1.

Sioux City took fire in the fourth inning, racking up five runs on four hits and an error. Derrick Robinson and LeVon Washington each had RBI singles on the inning. Tim Colwell plated two runs with an RBI double.

The Explorers went on to chalk up six more runs in the contest, totaling sixteen on the night to give them the 16-1 victory over the Goldeyes at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Explorers left-hander Cody Forsythe (10-4) received the victory, going six solid innings with only one run allowed and six strikeouts.

Winnipeg's starter Ethan Carnes (5-3) was charged with the loss, giving up a whopping 15 runs (13 earned) in only five innings pitched.
