Exhibition Schedule Features Opponent From Japan And Trips To Three South Dakota Cities

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Canaries will take on an opponent from Japan and play games in Mitchell, Yankton, and Huron during a six-game exhibition schedule leading-up to the beginning of the 2008 season.
The Birds open the exhibition schedule on Monday, April 28, when they play the Dakota Wesleyan University Tigers at Caldwell Park in Mitchell, SD. The game will be the Canaries second against a collegiate team. In 2007, the Canaries defeated South Dakota State University in a game played at the Birdcage.
On Tuesday, April 29, the Canaries will make their annual trek to Yankton, where they will play the Sioux City Explorers at Riverside Park. In last year's visit to Yankton, the Canaries blasted three home runs, including two by Designated Hitter Will Smith.
The Canaries play their first game in Sioux Falls Stadium on Wednesday, April 30, when they take on the Ibaraki Golden Golds from Japan. The Golden Golds belong to the Japan Amateur Baseball Association and are owned by popular Japanese comedian Kinichi "Kinchan" Hagimoto. Kinchan is known in Japan for his physical comedy, and some of his comedic jargon has found its way into the everyday Japanese lexicon.
After a day off, the exhibition season will continue on Friday, May 2, when the Canaries will play the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League at Memorial Park Stadium in Huron, SD. The game will be the first between the Canaries and T-Bones since June 23, 2005.
The Birds will play one game outside South Dakota during the exhibition season. On Saturday, May 3, the team travels to Crofton, NE to play the Sioux City Explorers.
The Canaries wrap-up the exhibition season with a game at home on Monday, May 5. The Canaries will play the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in their final game before the 2008 American Assocation season. The Birds open the regular season on May 8 with a visit to the defending champion Fort Worth Cats. The Canaries home opener is on Tuesday, May 13, when the club will host the Pensacola Pelicans in their "Season Premier" featuring a post-game fireworks display presented by First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard.
