Everett AquaSox News Release
Pasco, WA: For the second straight game, the Everett AquaSox beat the Tri-City Dust Devils in a 2-1 pitcher's duel. Both pitching staffs were excellent, with the Frogs getting the bulk of their innings from Brandon Schaeffer and the Dust Devils getting a brilliant start from Sammy Natera Jr.
Everett began the contest by using an opener. Jordan Jackson got through the first inning unscathed before handing the ball to Schaeffer. From there, the zeroes began piling up
Natera began his night with four scoreless innings, only allowing three hits and striking out seven. Meanwhile, Schaeffer looked stellar in his first two innings of work but ran into his first and only snag in the fourth inning when Werner Blakely lifted his fifth home run of the year to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead
Natera finished his night after five innings of incredible work. He shut down the Everett offense, allowing only four hits and striking out eight. He handed things to his bullpen before the sixth.
The AquaSox offense was thrilled to see Natera leave the game, putting together their first, only, and ultimately game-winning rally in the sixth inning. After Harry Ford and Gabriel Gonzalez both walked to start the inning, Hogan Windish picked up an RBI single to tie the game. With Gonzalez at third, Josh Hood followed this up with a double play ball that was not ideal but was good enough to give Everett the 2-1 lead.
Schaeffer got through another inning of work, finalizing his line at five innings of one-run ball on three hits with four strikeouts. From then on, the game was in the hands of the AquaSox bullpen, and they did not disappoint.
Kelvin Nunez came on and fired a scoreless seventh, which was followed up by a Kyle Hill scoreless eighth. Then Leon Hunter got into a bit of trouble in the ninth, allowing runners to reach first and second with two outs, but Jarod Bayless came on to get the final out, save the day, and pick up his fourth save of the season.
The Frogs have now won four in a row, seven of their last eight, and remain four games ahead of the Eugene Emeralds for the final playoff spot in the Northwest League.
