Kennewick, WA- After giving up the first goal of the morning, the Everett Silvertips (4-0-0-0 8 Pts) rattled off eight consecutive goals against the Portland Winterhawks, (2-2-0-0 4 Pts) defeating the defending WHL Champions 8-2 at the Toyota Center on Friday.

The Winterhawks jumped ahead of the Silvertips with a power-play goal by Dominic Turgeon at the 11:18 mark of the first period. It did not take long for Everett to recover though, scoring three goals in a span of only 2:30 to jump out to a 3-1 lead.

Everett extended its lead in the second period with goals by Waltteri Hopponen and Joshua Wingquist. The Silvertips would take that 5-1 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes of play.

Goals by Manraj Hayer, Brayden Low and Wingquist in the third period gave Everett an 8-1 lead, dashing any hopes the Winterhawks had of making a comeback . Portland would add a late goal by Chase De Leo but that was as close as the Winterhawks would get.

Daniel Cotton played all 60 minutes for Everett stopping 31 of the 33 shots while his Portland counterpart Adin Hill faced 36 shots on Friday saving 28 of them. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow for day three of the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament.

Everett will take on the Kootenay ice at 11 a.m. while the Portland Winterhawks play the Seattle Thunderbirds at 3 p.m.
