Americans Defeat Ice for First Pre-Season Win

Kennewick, WA - In its first game back at the Toyota Center the Tri-City Americans (1-3-0-0 2Pts) broke through for its first victory of the pre-season taking down the Kootenay Ice (0-1-0-0 0Pts) 4-1 on Thursday night.

The Americans fell behind early on Thursday surrendering the first goal of the game on a deflection in front of Evan Sarthou by Kootenays' Jon Martin. The Americans would pull even with the Ice late in the period with an Austyn Playfair goal at 14:32 of the first swinging momentum back Tri-Citys' way.

Marcus Messier scored what would end up being the eventual game-winning goal for the Americans at 12:50 of the second period giving Tri-City its first lead after forty minutes in the 2013 pre-season.

Beau McCue added two insurances markers in the third period scoring at the 11:24 mark and then adding an empty net goal at 19:39 of the third period to close out the night for Tri-City.

Sarthou got the start in goal for the Americans Thursday night stopping 19 of the 20 shots that he faced. Troy Trombley relieved Sarthou at 12:50 of the second period and took the Americans home stopping all 13 of the shots he faced.

The Americans will be right back it again tomorrow night taking on the Seattle Thunderbirds in day two of the Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Toyota Center.
