Everett Silvertips News Release
Lethbridge, Alta. - The Everett Silvertips lost to the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-1 in their Western Hockey League game on Wednesday night, November 7th, inside of the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge. Dane Crowley scored the only goal for Everett which was also his second in as many nights. As a result of the defeat the Silvertips record drops a notch to 11-8 (22 points) overall and to 4-2 on this current eight game road trip.
The Hurricanes got on the board quickly in the first period when Zach Boychuk scored a power play goal at the 1:36 mark. The Silvertips made a game of it again later in the opening period on the Crowley goal. While Everett was working a man advantage, Crowley released a wrist shot from the top of the circles and the puck deflected its way past Lethbridge goaltender Michael Maniago at 17:28. Zach Hamill's assist on the play gives him 12 points in his last 13 games.
Things remained close throughout the majority of the second period before Lethbridge took control. Just like their first goal of the game this one came while on the power play against a Silvertips penalty killing unit that entered the game ranked first in the league. This time the shot came off the stick of Adam Chorneyko at 19:18.
The momentum gained by the late goal carried over into the final period for the home team as Jacob Dietrich scored an insurance goal just 2:47 in. The Silvertips could never get themselves back on even terms despite having a trio of power plays throughout the period. Mitch Fadden then capped the scoring with an empty net, shorthanded goal at 19:36 while goaltender Leland Irving was pulled for the extra skater. On the ensuing face-off Brennan Sonne then dropped the gloves for the second time in the game getting his point successfully across both times against Ryan Kerr and early in the first period versus Mitch Versteeg.
After eight days in the province the Silvertips now leave Alberta behind and head West into British Columbia. Their next stop is in Cranbrook, B.C. to face-off against the Kootenay Ice inside of the Cranbrook Rec. Plex. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST (6:00 p.m. PST). The road trip comes to a conclusion on Saturday night as the team returns to the U.S. and plays the Spokane Chiefs. The puck drop at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
