
Esks Offensive Duo Earn CFL Honours

(Edmonton) Two key pieces in the Edmonton Eskimos remarkable 5 - 0 start to the 2011 season have been named the Gibson's Finest CFL Players of the Month. Quarterback Ricky Ray and running back Jerome Messam are the top Offensive and Canadian players respectively in July.
In leading the Esks to their best season opening tart in three decades, Ray was 102-152 (67%) passing for a league best 1,492 yds and 10 touchdowns last month. The nine year veteran has been intercepted just once in five games.
Acquired of from BC during training camp, Messam has made an immediate impact in his first season with Edmonton. He was named Gibson's Finest Top Canadian for Week #2 with a par of touchdownsin the Esks' win over Hamilton. Messam closed out the month with 55 carries for 274 yds (4th in the CFL) and two TDs, along with 4 receptions for 30 yards.
Edmonton puts its unblemished record on the line Friday night against the CFL East division leading Winnipeg Blue Bombers (4 - 1). It's the first of two straight games on the road for Edmonton, who play in Montreal on Thursday, August 11th.
