Edmonton Elks News Release

(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club announced today that offensive lineman Dan Comiskey has been traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for defensive lineman Joe Montford.

The move comes at the request of Comiskey after the birth of twin daughters this past January. "Dan has been one of our best linemen for three seasons and trading him was a difficult decision. The Eskimo organization places a high importance on family, and allowing Dan to play football closer to home is what's best for his family right now," said Eskimo head coach Danny Maciocia.

Comiskey was set to enter his fourth season with Edmonton and had started all 54 games over the last three seasons as an Eskimo. In 2003, Dan was named a CFL West Division All-Star, a CFLPA All-Star and was the Eskimos' nominee for the CFL's Tom Pate Award. Dan was also named a CFLPA All-Star last season. Prior to joining Edmonton in 2002, Dan played five seasons with Saskatchewan.

In exchange for Comiskey the Eskimos receive one of the CFL's most feared defensive linemen in Joe Montford. The five-time East Division and CFL All-Star brings a long list of accomplishments with him from Hamilton where he played eight seasons (1996-2001, '03-'04) interrupted by a one-year stint in Toronto (2002). Montford was named the league's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 1998, 2000 and 2001 and led the CFL in sacks in '98, '99, '00 and '01. Montford has also been selected as a CFLPA All-Star six times ('98, '99, '00, '01, '02 and ‘04).

"Players of Joe's ability are rare and having him a part of our defense is something we are very excited about. Joe's tendency to dominate upfront will make us instantly better on defense," said Maciocia.
