Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos today announced the "Green and Go" program, a one year pilot project in partnership with the City of Edmonton and sponsored by Molson, that will provide free service on LRT, Park 'n Ride and regular transit for two hours before and after each home game to anyone holding an Eskimo ticket.
Eskimo President and CEO Rick LeLacheur made the announcement at Clarke Stadium, site of the 2008 Eskimo training camp. "The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club is committed to ensuring that fans receive excellent value for their ticket and the Green and Go program delivers on that promise. The program will help discourage incidents of drinking and driving and reduce traffic and parking congestion in surrounding neighborhoods. Our thanks to Molson and Edmonton Transit System (ETS) for their support of this initiative."
"When the Eskimos approached us with the idea, we immediately jumped on as a partner," said Rick Tousaw, Area Vice President for Molson in Western Canada. "We are proud to play our part in truly enhancing the overall fan experience for loyal Eskimo fans."
It's estimated that 40% of Eskimo fans use public transportation to travel to Commonwealth Stadium. Edmonton Transit Service runs Park 'n Ride service from six different locations and offers increased LRT service for every Eskimo home game.
"The City will add additional buses to accommodate the expected increase in transit riders and we'll be doing our best to get people to and from the game as quickly and efficiently as possible," said Charles Stolte, Manager, Edmonton Transit.
