Esks acquire CFL All-Star kicker Noel Prefontaine

(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have acquired kicker/punter Noel Prefontaine from the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for Edmonton's first round selection in the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft and a conditional pick in the 2010 Canadian Draft, the club announced today.
Eskimo Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Danny Maciocia says "Noel is a six time CFL All-Star and a proven winner."
Last season, Prefontaine played in 17 regular season games and the East Final for the Argos. He finished the regular season with 120 punts for an average of 45.9 yards and 65 kickoffs for an average of 61.2 yards. He also was good on 26 of 39 field goals (66.7%).
Prefontaine entered the CFL in 1998 when he joined the Toronto Argonauts as a punter. He finished second in punting in the CFL that year with a 46.7 average. In 2001 he played for the XFL's LA Extreme and then signed with the NFL's Baltimore Ravens. He rejoined the Argos in August 2001. The next season he again finished second in the league in punting (46.1 yard average) and also added field-goal kicking to his duties. In 2006 he booted his 512th career kickoff to become the club's career leader.
