(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club announced today that it has released centre Tim Prinsen. The move comes after Prinsen suffered neck and shoulder injuries in a motor vehicle accident earlier this year.

"Tim has been a valuable member of our team for five seasons and he will be difficult to replace. He has been leader on and off the field and was a pleasure to coach. We wish him nothing but the best as he continues to recover from his injuries and moves into a new phase in his life," said Eskimo head coach Danny Maciocia.

Prinsen started 14 games in 2004 before coming out of the line-up with a knee injury. He joined the Eskimos in 2000 and spent five years with the club ('00-'04) after three seasons in Hamilton (1997-'99). Prinsen was Hamilton's number one pick (4th overall) in the 1997 Canadian College Draft and won a Grey Cup with the Ti-cats in 1999. Born and raised in Edmonton, Tim played four seasons for the Edmonton Huskies (PJFC) before earning a scholarship to the University of North Dakota.

"This is a very difficult day, and I want to thank my coaches, fellow players and staff for their support during the past few months. I am grateful for having had an opportunity to play football in my hometown and in front of the league's best fans," said Prinsen.
