Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release
Hamilton, Ontario â The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are pleased to announce the club has signed defensive backs Chris Martin and Jemonte Battle to new, one year (plus an option) deals. Both players were in the option years of their previous contracts.
Martin, a 5'11", 190-pound defensive back played in 10 games last season after signing with the Tiger-Cats as a free-agent on August 11th. The Brooklyn, New York native made 25 defensive tackles, two quarterback sacks and two interceptions. Before joining the Ticats, Martin played two seasons at Washington State University and spent 2003 with the Peoria Pirates of Arena Football 2.
"Chris is a key part of our secondary that played really well for us down the stretch last year," remarked Greg Marshall, head coach of the Ticats. "We're excited to have him back and to give those guys a chance to build on last season's success."
Battle, a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, played 10 games last season, recording 22 defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles and one interception. Prior to signing with Hamilton, the 23 year-old played four seasons at Catawba College, helping the Indians win three SAC titles.
"Jemonte is a valuable guy to have on our roster," said Marshall. "He can line up at a few different positions on defence and that versatility is a big bonus for us."
