Edmonton Elks News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club mourns the passing today of former Eskimo great Ted Tully at age 73.
Tully played twelve seasons for the Green and Gold (1950 - '62) and was a key member of the Esks "Three in a Row" Grey Cup winning teams of 1954, '55 & '56. In the era of "two way players," Tully was noted for his versatility, playing guard, linebacker and also handling the kicking duties. The four time Western Conference All-Star also played in the 1950 and 1962 Grey Cups.
Tully is perhaps best known for his role in one of the most famous plays in football history. In the 1954 Grey Cup, Tully and teammate Rollin Prather forced Montreal's Chuck Hunsinger to fumble. Jackie Parker returned the ball 90 yards for a touchdown, giving Edmonton it's first ever Grey Cup victory.
After retiring from football in 1962, Tully worked and lived in Edmonton. The entire Edmonton Eskimo organization sends its condolences to Ted Tully's family and his many friends.
