Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - The Hammerheads scored three times in the first inning and cruised from there as Jake Esch had a fantastic outing in Jupiter's 7-2 win over Tampa on Saturday.
After Esch tossed a 1-2-3 first inning, the Hammerheads got right to work in the top of the first.
Justin Bohn led off the game with a double and Yosmany Guerra followed with walk. The Sharks would get on the board in the following at bat when a ground ball by Matt Juengel got through the legs of the third baseman Eric Jagielo as Bohn scored.
After a strikeout, Avery Romero hit a liner to left that hopped over the wall for a ground rule double to plate Guerra. Juengel would later score on a ground out by Chad Wallach.
That would be plenty of support for Esch who posted one of his best outings of the season as he improved to 5-5. Esch tossed seven shutout innings allowing six hits with six strikeouts and no walks. He threw 96 pitches, 61 for strikes.
The offense also had a solid night as every batter, with the exception of Wallach, had a base hit, led by Jesus Solorzano who went 3-for-4.
Jupiter had something brewing in each of the first five innings as the leadoff man in each of the first five frames reached via a base hit.
In the third the Sharks put up a four spot to extend the lead. Jupiter loaded the bases with one out when Matt Juengel singled, Avery Romero was hit by a pitch and Chad Wallach walked. Juengel would score the fourth run of the night when Tampa starter Jhon Morban uncorked a wild pitch.
Solorzano would follow with a single to left to make it a 5-0 lead as Romero came home. Wallach would later score on a fielder's choice and a sac fly by Ryan Goetz would cap the scoring for Jupiter.
The Yankees would grab a pair in the ninth inning but Reid Redman would come in to record the final out via a strikeout to preserve the win.
The Hammerheads and Yankees will play the third game of the series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
