Washington, Penn. - Six Rockford errors. Six unearned runs for Washington. A six-run loss for the RiverHawks. The Wild Things capitalized on bad defense by the ‘Hawks once again, handing Rockford a 9-3 defeat on Saturday night.

The RiverHawks made six errors in the game and have made 10 errors total in the first two games of the series, leading to 11 unearned runs.

‘Hawks starter Justin Olson (5-5) committed two costly errors that led to five unearned runs for the Wild Things. With runners on first and second and one out in the third, Olson fielded a grounder and made an errant throw to first base, allowing the first two runs of the game to score.

In the seventh inning, another errant throw by Olson-this time to second base-combined with two walks to load the bases with just one out. Dave Dowling relieved Olson and retired the first batter he faced but then gave up a three-run double to Randy McGarvey to break a 3-3 tie.

Rockford reliever Beau Massey gave up three insurance runs in the eighth, an inning in which the ‘Hawks committed three errors.

Washington reliever Mike Grady (2-2) pitched three scoreless innings to close out the game and pick up the win.

With one in the sixth, the RiverHawks tied the game at 3-3 with four straight hits off Washington starter Brendon Davis, who received a no-decision.

The start of the game was delayed one hour and 34 minutes because of rain.

The series in Washington concludes at 5:35 p.m. CDT on Sunday. Rockford returns to Marinelli Field at 7:05 p.m. Monday, August 22, to play the first of eight games at home in six days. Before Monday's game against Kalamazoo, the RiverHawks will host the third annual Doctors vs. Lawyers game at 4:05 p.m. Former major-leaguers George "Boomer" Scott and Minnie Minoso will serve as the celebrity managers.

The 'Hawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcast live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
