Ernesto Lacayo Signs with Duke City for the 2024 Season

November 15, 2023 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Duke City Gladiators News Release

Ernesto Lacayo is a talented football kicker with a remarkable journey in the world of indoor and arena football. His story began in Hayward, California, where, from 2003 to 2007, he showcased his kicking skills at Tennyson High School. During his time there, Lacayo left an indelible mark, holding numerous kicking records to set the stage for his future success.

From 2009 to 2010, Ernesto continued to impress on the field, this time at Hastings College. He played football and etched his name in the college's history books by setting all kicking records for the team. Despite his outstanding collegiate career, Lacayo went un-drafted in the NFL draft in 2011. However, this setback didn't deter his passion for the game. Shortly after the draft, he signed with the Nebraska Danger in the Indoor Football League (IFL), where he continued to hone his kicking abilities.

In 2013, Lacayo's journey led him to the Louisiana Swashbucklers in the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL). Unfortunately, the Swashbucklers folded that year, but this setback only fueled his determination. In 2014, he signed with the Wichita Wild in the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL), where he achieved remarkable success. Lacayo set an All-Arena/indoor record by making 30 field goals in a single season and kicked a CPIFL record 55-yard field goal against the Salina Bombers. He also secured a 51-yard game-winning field goal against the Dodge City Law, propelling the Wild into the CPIFL Championship.

Ernesto's football journey took a new turn in 2015 when he signed with the Wichita Force in the Champions Indoor Football (CIF). He played in only 10 games before receiving a call to join the Las Vegas Outlaws in the arena football league. During his 11 games with the Outlaws, Lacayo led the league in point-after-touchdown percentage, connecting on an impressive 91.5% of his attempts. In 2016, Lacayo continued to make strides in his career by signing with the Portland Steel in the Arena Football League (AFL). His dedication and skill made him a valuable asset to the team.

In 2020, Ernesto signed with the Seattle Dragons, but his contract was terminated when the league suspended operations on April 10, 2020. However, he didn't let this setback slow him down. In the spring of 2021, Lacayo signed with the Arizona Rattlers and was named to the 2021 All-IFL Second Team, showcasing his continued excellence in the indoor football scene. Most recently, on December 3, 2022, Ernesto Lacayo signed with the Duke City Gladiators of the Indoor Football League, where he has demonstrated his prowess as the #1 kicker in kickoffs. His journey is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the sport and his remarkable kicking abilities that have consistently set records and earned him recognition throughout his career.
