Green Bay Blizzard News Release
The Green Bay Blizzard have announced the re-signing of defensive lineman Rafiq Abdul-Wahid for the 2024 season.
Abdul-Wahid (6-2, 265), entering his third year in the Indoor Football League, joined the Blizzard during the 2022 season. He appeared in one game against the Massachusetts Pirates, helping Green Bay to their first win of the campaign before being placed on season-ending injured reserve. He returned to the Blizzard roster in April 2023, becoming a mainstay in the defensive line rotation. In his eight appearances, he put up 12.5 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and a blocked kick. He also filled in as an emergency left guard in a win against San Diego.
Abdul-Wahid is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and played collegiately at Chowan University. In his four seasons, he was a dominant force, racking up 139 tackles, 38.5 tackles for loss, 21 sacks, two pass breakups, three forced fumbles and six blocked kicks. He was named to the All-CIAA team twice.
"Rafiq came in and made his presence felt right away. He's shown the ability to play across the board for us, even showcasing his talents on the offensive side in emergencies," Blizzard head coach Corey Roberson said. "We are looking forward to Rafiq being a leader for us on the field and the community."
