DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers have signed defensive back Victor Hampton to the 2024 roster, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today.
Hampton (5'10, 195, South Carolina) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his first season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Collegiately, Hampton spent four seasons at the University of South Carolina. After redshirting as a true freshman, Hampton went on to appear in 36 games with the Gamecocks collecting 105 total tackles, four interceptions, and 18 pass breakups. Hampton also racked up numerous accolades including A.P. and College Sports Madness All-SEC Second Team, Phil Steele Third Team All-League Selection, two time Every Day Attitude Award and Everyday Hustle Award at the Garnet & Black Spring Game.
Following his collegiate career, Hampton was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent before being signed by the New York Giants and earning a spot on their practice squad.
"Victor has proven himself capable of performing at the highest level of professional football with as significant stint in the NFL," said Head Coach Mogensen. "He is someone that should be back at that level and is looking to get his name back on the radar from a stint here in Iowa. He is an elite defensive back that should step in and immediately make himself known in the IFL. We are expecting big things from Victor this season."
Hampton will enter the Barnstormers 2024 Training Camp in the spring.
"Although I have been to the top of pro football, I know I have a lot left in the tank and am motivated to get back to the league," said Hampton. "I believe in the history of the Iowa Barnstormers and feel when I perform to my abilities here, I will get that NFL opportunity once again.
