Altoona Curve News Release

(ERIE, PA) -- Kenny Baugh fired seven scoreless innings and Juan Tejeda and Derek Nicholson each homered as the Erie SeaWolves drilled the Altoona Curve, 9-1 Tuesday at Uht Park.

Baugh (2-3), a first-round pick of the Tigers in 2001, limited the Curve to just four hits and did not allow a runner past second base in recording the victory. The right-hander walked three and struck out three.

The victory was the seventh in a row for Erie (17-12), which is in first place in the Eastern League's Southern Division. Altoona (17-15) has lost four of the five games it has played against the SeaWolves this season.

Tejeda tied for the E.L. lead by smacking his ninth home run of the campaign in the first inning. The two-run shot came off of Curve starter Ian Snell (3-3).

The SeaWolves built the lead to 4-0 in the second with runs scoring on a wild pitch and an RBI triple by Curtis Granderson.

Erie tacked on five more against reliever Neal McDade. A run-scoring single by Scott Tousa and a wild pitch resulted in a pair of tallies in the sixth inning. In the seventh, Nicholson closed the SeaWolves' scoring with a three-run homer to left. It was Nicholson's third hit of the day.

The Curve cracked the run column in the eighth inning against relievers Alex Lantayo and Rick Kirsten. Lantayo hit lead-off man Chris Duffy with a pitch. After Duffy was forced at second by a Nate McLouth grounder, Kirsten took over.

With two out, Ryan Doumit extended his hitting streak to six games with a double to keep the inning going. Ronny Paulino followed with a single to right to plate McLouth for the Curve's only run.

The final game of the series and road trip is Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. in Erie. In a match-up of right-handers, Landon Jacobsen (1-2, 5.24) takes the ball for the Curve against the SeaWolves' Matt Roney (3-0, 3.08).
