Springfield Armor News Release

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Armor, presented by MGM Springfield, dropped a 110-104 decision tonight to the Erie BayHawks at the MassMutual Center.

The Armor (4-10) started tonight's game on a 10-2 run, punctuated by a Ben Uzoh steal and transition dunk, forcing Erie to call a timeout at the 8:34 mark of the first quarter. Coming out of the timeout, the BayHawks (9-5) began to whittle away at the early eight-point deficit, with a pair of D.J. Kennedy baskets and two Erik Daniels three-pointers fueling a 10-3 Erie run to trim the Armor lead to 13-12 at the 4:39 mark of the first. The Armor and BayHawks proceeded to trade leads late in the quarter, with Erie heading into the break holding a 27-25 advantage.

In the second, a Carleton Scott three-pointer gave the Armor their first lead of the quarter (36-34) at the 8:57 mark. That would be Springfield's last lead of the evening, as Erie's Demetri McCamey responded with a three-pointer of his own to give the BayHawks the lead for good. The BayHawks' lead ballooned to double digits for the first time in the game on a Mike Singletary layup just prior to halftime, giving Erie a 54-44 edge at intermission.

Kennedy scored 14 of his team-high 20 points in the opening half for the BayHawks, while Dennis Horner and Willie Reed each posted 10 points and five rebounds in the stanza.

The BayHawks came out in the third quarter and continued to maintain the upper hand, increasing their lead to a game-high 14 points (65-51) with 8:32 to go in the period. From there, the Armor managed to cut the deficit to single digits and Springfield closed the quarter on a 14-8 run to close the gap to four (79-75) after three quarters. Christian Polk keyed the late run for the Armor, scoring 10 points in the period on 4-of-6 shooting.

In the fourth, Erie raced out on a 9-3 run to push the lead back to double digits (88-78). The BayHawks kept the Armor at arm's length for much of the quarter, but an Uzoh layup got the Armor to within four (103-99) with 58.4 seconds to go. With their lead dwindling, Erie knocked down 9-of-10 free throws in the final minute to seal the six-point road victory.

In his second game with the Armor this season after being re-acquired on Thursday, Horner scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting with eight rebounds in 37 minutes off the bench. James Mays recorded his seventh double-double of the season (tied for second-most in the NBADL) with 13 points and 10 rebounds (eight offensive) in 37 minutes, Willie Reed added 16 points and seven rebounds (six offensive) in 31 minutes, Polk chipped in 13 points and five assists in 23 minutes off the bench, Ben Uzoh contributed 12 points and five rebounds in 32 minutes and Scott recorded 10 points and five rebounds in 26 minutes.

The BayHawks had six players score in double figures tonight, including all five bench players. Kennedy was the lone starter in double figures, scoring a team-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists in 35 minutes. Kyle Goldcamp pitched in a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds (five offensive) in 30 minutes, Daniels scored 16 points in 17 minutes, Tirrell Baines posted 13 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes, Demonte Harper tallied 11 points in 25 minutes and McCamey tossed in 10 points in 25 minutes.
