Energy Defeat the Red Claws 98-94

Des Moines, IA January 23, 2014 - The Iowa Energy defeated the Maine Red Claws 98-94 on Thursday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

The Energy ended the first quarter with a 20-18 lead behind Iowa's Kalin Lucas, who scored 9 of his team high 30 points in the first.

Iowa outscored Maine 30-17 in the second quarter and took a 50-35 lead into halftime.

The Energy pushed their lead to 23 early n in the third quarter but Maine cut it to 80-66 heading into the final quarter.

Maine guard Frank Gaines had 17 of his game high 35 points in the final quarter as Maine surged back to within one after Chris Babb hit a three pointer to make it 95-94. The Energy iced it with free throws to give Iowa the 98-94 victory to improve to 15-8 on the season. Maine falls to 9-14.

Maine was led by Gaines's 35 points and 7 rebounds. Ty Walker had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Babb added 13 points and 8 boards.

Iowa was led by Lucas's 30 points and 9 rebounds. Moses Ehambe had 17 points. Washington Wizards assignee ended the night with 16 points, 11 boards, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks.

The Energy travel to Erie for two games this weekend. The next home game will be Saturday, February 1st on 70's night. February 1st will also be Ladies Night and the first 1,000 fans will receive Iowa Energy trading cards.
