ELMIRA, New York - Maxime Gratchev scored a pair of goals to pace the Elmira Jackals to a 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday night. The win snapped a five game winning streak for the Cyclones over the Jackals.
Elmira opened the scoring 3:39 into the opening period when Maxime Gratchev snapped his first pro goal past Cyclones netminder Robert Mayer. Matt Lowry and Justin Donati collected the assists. Cincinnati leveled the scores at one each when rookie Matt Pierce slipped his first pro goal past Elmira goalie Michael Teslak. Pierce's shot came from the left side of the net as rookies Mark Voakes and Kevin Roeder added the helpers. The Jackals took the lead heading into the first break as Chanse Fitzpatrick picked up a loose puck on the right halfwall and worked to the front of the net, picked up the rebound and fired it from the left side of the net past Mayer. The shots on goal favored Cincinnati, 10-9, in the opening stanza.
The Jackals extended the lead to 3-1 at 36 seconds of the middle frame when Chaz Johnson finished off a two-on-one break with Justin Donati. Tyler Donati added the other assist. Cincinnati closed the gap to 3-2 at 4:59 of the period when Mike McLean stole a pass and snapped a shot just inside the right post, unassisted.
