Previewing the Upcoming Week:

2/13, 2/16 at Reading & 2/15 vs. Reading - 7:05 p.m., Home vs. REA 3-2-1, Away vs. REA 1-2-1

Last Wednesday the Jackals came back from down 4-1 to score a 6-4 win at home over Reading. It was Elmira's biggest comeback win this season and second in a row over the Royals. The Jackals scored four unanswered third period goals for a 5-2 win on January 21 - their most recent visit to the Sovereign Center. Elmira's third period play has been the difference against Reading lately as the Jackals have combined to outscore the Royals 7-0 in the third period of their last two meetings. While the Royals boast the fourth best defense in the league at 2.65 goals per game, the Jackals' offense has not had much trouble breaking through. Elmira has scored 32 goals in 10 games against Reading for a 3.2 average. After the three consecutive games this week the Jackals and Royals will take a break from one another and not play again until March 10 in Elmira.

Recapping Last Week:

2/6 vs. Reading: W 6-4

The Jackals thrilled their fans with their biggest comeback win of the season last Wednesday. Trailing Reading 4-1 in the second period, the Jackals began their rally with a power play goal from Kevin Harvey. Jordon Southorn followed shortly after to pull Elmira within one heading into the third. The Jackals exploded for three goals in the last 20 minutes. Jordan Pietrus tied the game just past the midway point, and Louie Caporusso scored the winner 2:31 later. Jean Bourbeau sealed the win with an empty net score in the final minutes.

2/8 vs. Kalamazoo: L 3-5

Trailing by two headed into the third period on Friday night, the Jackals were looking for another dramatic comeback win. It nearly materialized when Steven Kaunisto scored his first goal as a Jackal amidst a net-front scramble with 2:29 to play. That strike brought the Jackals within one but Kalamazoo's Sam Ftorek put the game away with an empty net goal with 60 seconds to play. Former Jackals goalie Joel Martin stole the show with 38 saves including 22 in the third period.

2/10 vs. Wheeling: W 5-0

There were no late game heroics needed on Sunday as the Jackals led wire-to-wire in their first meeting with Wheeling since New Year's Eve. Marc Cheverie made his first start for Elmira since January 11 (3-2 OTW vs. Evansville) and stopped 25 shots to earn his third shutout of the season. Jordan Pietrus capped off a five point week with a three point game (2G, 1A) and picked up his first shorthanded goal of the season.

Quick Hits:

* With five points (3G, 2A) in three games Jordan Pietrus is nominated for ECHL Player of the Week Honors. The third-year pro out of Brown University has 10 points (4G, 6A) in his last seven games. Pietrus also ranks fifth in the league with 168 shots on goal.

* Elmira has given up the fourth-fewest third period goals at 45 while their 55 goals scored in the third rank eighth and the +10 goal differential is eighth best. The Jackals have outscored opponents 16-2 in the third period over their last seven games (5-2-0).

* The Jackals play each of their next eight games against the same four opponents - Reading (3), Wheeling (1), Trenton (2), and Kalamazoo (2). They have a combined 14-11-3 record against those opponents. Four of the games are at home and four are on the road.

* Marc Cheverie set a new Jackals ECHL record with his third shutout (25 saves) of the season last Sunday vs. Wheeling. It was Cheverie's seventh of his career and tied his single season best from 2010-11 as a rookie with Cincinnati.

* The Jackals are 22-4-2 this season when allowing three or fewer goals in a game. In their last seven victories they have given up an average of 1.4 goals per game. In five of those games the Jackals' opponent has scored one or fewer goals and only once did they score more than two.
