Previewing the Upcoming Week:

12/19 at Trenton - 7:05 p.m., Home vs. TRE 1-1-0, Away vs. TRE 2-0-1

Elmira heads into Wednesday's game in Trenton riding a two-game win streak at Sun National Bank Center. It is the fourth of eight scheduled games between the teams in Trenton this season. Thanks to a third-period comeback and overtime win in Trenton last Saturday the Jackals have earned five of a possible six points in their first three games there this season. Like Elmira, Trenton earned five of a possible six points last week and is just three points behind the Jackals for second place in the Atlantic Division. The Jackals' offense has thrived in Trenton this season to the tune of a 5.67 goals-per-game average. Elmira has scored five or more goals against the Titans in four straight games overall. Games between Elmira and Trenton in Trenton have been highly contested this season and have seen a combined five lead changes in the three games.

12/21 & 12/22 at Wheeling - 7:00 p.m., Home vs. WHL 1-1-0, Away vs. WHL 0-0-0

The Jackals have five games at WesBanco Arena on their schedule this season and they will play the first two this Friday and Saturday. The Jackals were 3-4-1 at WesBanco Arena last season and are 11-9-2 in their history in Wheeling. The Nailers enter the week with the fewest points (21) in the Eastern Conference, but have also played the fewest games (23). Wheeling has won two straight and is 5-3-2 over its last 10 games after a win over Evansville last Sunday. They are vastly different at home (7-2-3) versus on the road (1-8-2). Since Andrew Hotham and Chris Higgins joined the Nailers via two separate trades on December 7 they have built a 2-2-2 record.

Recapping Last Week:

12/14 vs. Orlando: W 4-1

Chaz Johnson power Elmira's attack with a pair of goals and Marc Cheverie swatted away 27 shots to help Elmira take down the visiting Solar Bears in their first ever trip to First Arena. Johnson's first goal came on the power play just 6:07 into the game and Elmira never looked back. Andrew Rowe padded the lead to two at 11:10 of the second only to be followed up by Johnson's second of the night 4:10 later. Orlando's Ryan Reaves tried to give his team life at the end of the second by deflecting a power play goal past Cheverie. Early in the third, though, Jordan Pietrus broke a month-long goal drought when he swatted in his own rebound and restored Elmira's three-goal lead. The win improved Elmira's home record against South Division teams to 4-1-0.

12/15 at Trenton: OTW 5-4

On Saturday night the Jackals earned their most dramatic win of the young season by erasing a two-goal third period deficit to claim an overtime win over the Trenton Titans. Artem Demkov opened the scoring before the first was two minutes old but Trenton answered a few minutes later with a goal by Marcel Noebels, but at the midpoint of the first Andrew Rowe restored Elmira's lead with his fifth power play goal of the season. Trenton owned the second period with a 17-9 shot advantage and two goals to Elmira's none. Ryan Hayes and Andy Bombach scored one minute and seven seconds apart to tie the game and then give Trenton its first lead of the night. That lead carried over to the third then was extended to two on Stephen Schultz' goal at 9:50. After that the Jackals bared down and started their comeback. Jack Downing scored 2:07 after Shultz to pull Elmira within one then Rowe provided the tying goal with 3:41 to play. In overtime Demkov's second of the night won the game for Elmira with 3:51 gone by.

12/16 vs. Reading: SOL 2-3

Sunday capped a three-in-three week for the Jackals and Royals and they provided fans with an entertaining game between the Atlantic Division's top two teams. Reading grabbed the early lead on a breakaway goal by Yannick Tifu with just over seven minutes left in the first. Elmira re-grouped at intermission and came storming out of the gates in the second. Jack Downing tied the score by finishing off a cross-ice feed from Jean Bourbeau at 3:58 then at 5:24 Artem Demkov capped some precision passing by Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel and Dustin Gazley to put Elmira ahead by one. David Vallorani responded with a late second-period goal to knot it at two. Both teams played sound defense in the third, limited scoring chances, and sent the game to overtime. After an uneventful five minutes it shifted to a shootout to decide the winner. Reading's first two shooters scored on Marc Cheverie, but Louie Caporusso scored in the bottom of the second to keep Elmira close. Demkov then tied it in the bottom of the fifth to send it into sudden-death rounds. After three saves each by Cheverie and Philipp Grubauer Kirk MacDonald scored in the bottom of the ninth and Kyle Bushee was denied so Reading earned the bonus point for the win.

Quick Hits:

* In his second game back, after missing six with an injury, Dustin Gazley set a new career high with four assists in one game on Dec. 15 at Trenton. He became the first Jackal to score four points in a game this season and tied his best as a rookie when he had 1G, 3A on Jan. 7, 2012 vs. Cincinnati.

* Elmira starts a season-long stretch of seven straight games away from home this Wednesday. The Jackals have gone 2-0-2 on the road in their last four after starting the season 1-4-0 away from First Arena. After this trip the Jackals won't play more than two games in a row away from home until five straight from March 1 to 7.

* This week finishes a stretch of the Jackals' schedule that features nine of 10 games against Atlantic Division foes. Through the first six they are 2-2-2. For the season the Jackals are 6-4-3 against the division with a 2-0-2 mark on the road and a 4-4-1 record at home. In January the Jackals will play four of their six home games against the division.

* Artem Demkov leads the Jackals, and ranks fourth in the ECHL, with four game winning goals. He scored his second overtime winner of the season last Saturday in Trenton. It took 42 games fewer this year for Demkov to equal his four game-winning goals as a rookie in 2011-12. He only needs six more goals to equal his rookie total of 20.

* After a 31-save performance on Sunday, goalie March Cheverie has taken up residence in the top five of many of the major goaltending categories. He is fourth in goals-against average (2.37), third in save percentage (.924), and third in shutouts (2) while his eight wins are tied for sixth most in the league.
