Bristol State Liners News Release
The Bristol Pirates lost their series against the Elizabethton Twins on Sunday as they narrowly avoided being shutout in the 9-2 loss.
The Pirates were held scoreless over the first eight innings of the game, as they were only able to manage two hits in that span. Mikell Granberry and Brendt Citta each hit RBI singles in the ninth to give Bristol their first runs of the game, but Conner Uselton struck out swinging to end the contest.
Making his second start of the year, Steven Jennings held the Twins scoreless over the first five innings of the game, allowing only three hits and two walks. Jennings ran into trouble in the sixth inning when he gave up a home run to Jared Akin on the first pitch of the inning to give the Twins a 1-0 lead. He only managed to record one out in the inning before being replaced by Joe Jacques and finished the night allowing four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and two walks while striking out three over 5 1/3 innings, which was the longest start of his career.
Jacques allowed five runs on four hits and two walks before he could get out of the sixth inning. Argenis Romano started the seventh inning for Bristol and closed out the game with three scoreless innings, allowing only two hits while striking out one. After posting a 3.52 ERA over the first three games of the year, the Bristol bullpen compiled an 11.88 ERA over the three-game homestand against Elizabethton.
The Pirates (3-3) now will host the Pulaski Yankees for a two-game series beginning on Monday night. Shane Baz will start for the Pirates, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
