Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Sky veteran center Elizabeth Williams has been named to the WNBA All-Defensive Second Team, the league announced today.
Williams earned all-defensive honors for the second time in her nine-year career, her first appearance in 2020 on the All-Defensive First Team list with Atlanta.
This season, she led the Sky in blocks per game (1.5 bpg), total blocks (60) and was No. 5 in the league in the regular season in blocks. Her 1.5 blocks per game rank the 11th-highest average in a single season in franchise history. She also averaged a career-high in blocks (1.5) and steals (1.3), her highest average since 2017. She was one of three players this season, including teammate Alanna Smith, to average more than 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in under 30 minutes per game.
In 2023, Williams recorded three or more blocks in seven games this season, including a career-high six blocks against Seattle on July 28. She also tallied three or more steals in five games this season, including a season-high five steals on August 6 against Dallas.
Williams moved to No. 11 on the WNBA all-time blocks list on July 25 against Las Vegas to pass Michelle Snow. She currently sits at 430 career blocks, only 13 away from passing Taj McWilliams-Franklin to reach No. 10 on the all-time list. She ranks third among all active players in career blocks, behind Candace Parker and Brittney Griner.
She is only the second player in Sky franchise history to earn a spot on the All-Defensive Team, along with Sylvia Fowles (2008, 2010-14).
