El Paso Locomotive FC News Release
EL PASO, Texas - El Paso Locomotive FC (0-3-0, 0 points, West-13) takes on San Diego Loyal for the first time in franchise history on Sunday, April 3. Kickoff from Torero Stadium in San Diego, Calif. is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes. Fans are also encouraged to join Locomotive at Palomino Tavern for its official watch party to help cheer on the Locos.
El Paso Locomotive has had a dramatic start to its 2022 season, helping set the stage for a league record with the most combined goals in a single half. In its last outing, Locomotive hosted Las Vegas Lights FC, playing a nine-goal stunner to cut back a three-goal deficit twice and end the game 4-5. The midweek game against Vegas once again highlighted the benefits of Hutchinson's fast-paced system. As the game opened up, Locomotive quickly began putting away goals with Dylan Mares, Nick Hinds, Ricardo Zacarias, and Harry Brockbank finding the back of the net throughout the night. Now with the benefit of 10 days of recuperation and dedicated work on the system, the Locos are ready to pick up a statement win against San Diego Loyal.
Led by former USMNT star Landon Donovan, San Diego Loyal has made waves early in the Western Conference, most recently claiming a 3-2 win over Phoenix Rising FC. After four games to kick off the 2022 USL Championship season, Loyal has found itself near the top of the Western Conference standings, sitting in second place. As Loyal has no shortage of goal-scoring talent, it will prove to be another early challenge for El Paso Locomotive as it aims to earn its first win of the season. A win against San Diego would begin putting Locomotive back on track for the season while making a statement of the quality the El Paso side has in the locker room.
