Detroit City FC News Release
DETROIT, Michigan - The Detroit City Football Club welcomes Memphis 901 FC on Saturday, April 2, to Keyworth Stadium. Kick off is set for 4 pm ET on ESPN+ along with airing locally on MyTV20 (Detroit), WBSF - CW46 (Flint), WWMT - CW7 (Grand Rapids), and WSYM-TV FOX 47 (Lansing).
Le Rouge (1-1-1) enters the match sitting seventh in the Eastern Conference with four points. Memphis 901 sits one spot ahead of City in sixth with six points - winning its previous two outings after a 3-0 loss to Pittsburgh to open the season.
Last time out, Detroit City FC battled back from a goal down to force a draw against the unbeaten Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Midfielder Maxi Rodriguez tallied the equalizer in the 73rd minute, beating the keeper just inside the left post from the penalty spot. Rodriguez was named to the USL's Team of the Week following his performance - completing 49 of 61 passes and winning 12 of 15 duels.
Goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher continued to impress in frame, making two diving stops in the first 45 minutes of play against one of the league's top offenses in the Riverhounds. Steinwascher currently boasts an 80-percent save percentage and has yet to surrender a goal from the run of play in 2022.
Defender Rhys Williams continues to deliver from his right back position, currently ranked No. 43 in FotMob's Top 100 for the USL Championship - (No. 59 week one, No. 61 week two). Williams leads the team in shots (four) and tackles (12) on the season, and has won 32 of 49 duels.
DCFC and Memphis come into Saturday's contest as two of the least penalized teams in the league. City has conceded just 39 fouls, while Memphis has committed 38, which ranks tied for sixth and tied for fourth, respectively, in the USL Championship. Le Rouge ranks fifth in the league in possession, keeping the ball for 56.6 percent of the match - Memphis enters Saturday at 19th in the category.
Saturday's fixture will be a homecoming for Memphis 901 head coach Ben Pirmann. Pirmann was the head coach of Detroit City from 2013-2018, amassing a record of 49-17-17 with a regular-season title in 2013 and a Midwest Region championship in 2017 while competing in the NPSL. Pirmann went to Memphis as an assistant before being named interim in 2020 and full-time in 2021.
Memphis rebounded from an opening week 3-0 loss to Pittsburgh with back-to-back wins coming against the Oakland Roots (2-1 at home) and the Las Vegas Lights (1-0 at Las Vegas). Aaron Molloy, Jeremy Kelly and Patrick Seagrist account for 901's scoring this season with one apiece. Kelly comes into the fixture with a FotMob rating of 7.9 - ranking ninth in the USL Championship. Trey Muse has started all three matches in frame, surrendering four goals and making seven saves.
Gates open at 3 pm on Saturday and tickets are available at tickets.detcityfc.com.
