El Paso Dominates AirHogs

The El Paso Diablos blasted the Grand Prairie AirHogs 15-0 in the first game after the All Star break at QuickTrip Park on Thursday night. They showed no signs of rust from their three game break as they ended the night with 18 hits. El Paso has now won 5 out of their last six games.

El Paso got the scoring started in the first inning with one run on a J.D. Reininger triple. El Paso scored three in the third inning to push their lead to 4-0. Arnoldo Ponce had a RBI double and Reininger again came up big with a two run home run. The lead would reach six with two runs in the fifth inning as Kyle Nichols and Benji Johnson both had run scoring singles. El Paso would break the game wide open with an eight run eighth inning. They sent 12 men to the plate in the inning and the first eight reached in order. Nichols and Ponce both had bases loaded doubles in the inning. They were able to add their final run of the night on a Mike Provencher ninth inning single.

El Paso outscored Grand Prairie by 15 and out hit the AirHogs by 15 as well. El Paso finished the night with 18 hits. Arnoldo Ponce ended just a home run shy of the cycle going 5-6 with two doubles and a triple and three RBI. J.D. Reininger ended just a double shy of the cycle going 3-5 with a triple, a home run and three RBI. Kyle Nichols also turned in a good night going 2-5 with three RBI while Benji Johnson had his sixth straight multi-hit game going 3-5 with two RBI.

D.J. Mattox was wild but turned in a very good outing. He ends up throwing eight shutout innings and picks up his eighth win which ties him for the team lead in wins. Mattox (8-5) was wild as he walked seven but he also allowed only three hits and struck out six. He finished his night in stellar fashion by sitting down the last 12 he faced in order. As a staff, the Daiblos sat down 15 out of the last 16 they faced. El Paso was able to chase Grand Prairie's starter, Ryan Riddle (0-1), in the fifth inning after allowing five runs on five hits. For the third straight game the Diablos were able to blow up the AirHogs bull pen, this time striking for 10 runs against their bull pen in just five innings.

El Paso looks to make it two straight wins on Friday night. Amad Stephens (4-7, 5.54) will be on the mound against Grand Prairie's Ryne Tacker (5-4, 4.46). Game time is set for 6:05. Fans can listen in by tuning to ESPN 1380 or online at www.diablos.com.
