
Eight-Run Second Propels Royals Over First Place Blue Jays

Bluefield, WV- The Burlington Royals scored eight runs in the second inning to down the Bluefield Blue Jays, 9-5. Abel Gonzalez earned his second win of the season, while Deivy Estrada drops to 3-3, taking the loss.
Trailing 1-0, the Royals sent 12 batters to the plate in the second, with four RBI doubles in the inning from Lane Adams, Justin Trapp, Michael Antonio, and Jorge Bonifacio, who had two two-baggers in the inning. Burlington tallied eight of their nine runs in the inning, and held an 8-1 advantage entering the fourth inning. The Blue Jays scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to an 8-3 game. Daniel Arcila homered to right off of Nick Graffeo, who allowed three runs.
Bluefield added a run in the seventh and eighth, but an RBI single from Trapp in the eighth gave the Royals their ninth run, and a lead that the Blue Jays could not overcome.
Burlington starter Nick Graffeo allowed three runs on four hits while walking three with three strikeouts. Gonzales struck out four over three and two thirds while giving up a run and two hit. Rudy Brown tossed the final two innings surrendering a run on two hits.
Estrada lasted just an inning and a third, allowing eight runs on seven hits. Of the four pitchers used in relief, Ian Kadish allowed a run on three hits in two and a third innings.
Six Royals had two hits, including Bonifacio who doubled twice. Trapp knocked in a game-high three runs, while Adams had two RBI's. Murray Watts was the one of two hitless visitors, going 0-for-5, while Anthony Howard went 0-for-3.
Eight of nine starters for the home team each recorded one hit, while Dalton Pompey was the only hitless Blue Jay.
The two teams will face off on Wednesday night in game two of the three game series, and the second game of the Royals' six game road trip.
