Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Les Quebec Capitales topped the Worcester Tornadoes with the benefit of eight runs in the eighth alone in a 14-3 victory at Le Stade Municipal on Wednesday night. Worcester committed five errors during the game, including two in the eighth, in which the first ten batters reached (and the first eight scored).
Phil Negus got the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) in six-plus innings of work. He struck out five batters, walked just one and gave up eight hits.
Bryan Rembisz earned the win with seven innings of two-run ball. His only miscue was a two-run homer by Nick Salotti in the seventh. Salotti now has three extra base hits in the series.
The Tornadoes added a run against Guillaume Duguay in the eighth on a wild pitch that plated Brandon Pinckney. He had reached on a four-pitch walk earlier in the frame.
Les Capitales scored one run in the bottom of the first on a Sebastien Boucher single, scoring Jeff Helps, who had doubled to start the frame. In all four of the innings that les Capitales' lead-off batter reached, they scored. There was only one inning that a batter even reached base after the first hitter was retired, a two-out single for Rene Leveret in the fifth.
Quebec scored four times in the third inning, from another Boucher single, an error by Alex Nunez (one of two he had) and a two-RBI base knock for Steve Brown.
Josh Colafemina led two different innings off with a single and a steal of second, scoring in each frame. After doing so in the third inning, he did the same as the only run to score in the seventh.
Mike Gedman pitched one-plus innings, escaping a jam with an intentional walk of Leveret and a 3-2-3 double play, but ran into trouble in the next frame, giving up five runs (four earned). Mike Mullen couldn't retire a batter, allowing three runs (two earned). Kyle Regnault retired the only three hitters he faced, the last three of the eighth.
The fourth and final game of the set is Thursday night at 7:05, with Zach Zuercher taking the mound opposite Karl Gelinas. Radio coverage begins at 6:50 with Tornadoes Pre-Game Live on USTREAM.tv.
